some big long gigantic theory about jade and ike (and also the gloryverse in general sorta)
alright, you’re gonna have to put on your reading cap because this one’s gonna get a little long and complicated and sort of ridiculous. tw for the usual mg stuff (murder, suicide, etc).
as of issue 20 we have full confirmation that some people at the academy have “gifts”- hodge for example can read the blank papers, time travel, and have some sort of mind control maybe. thus it’s pretty safe to say that many of the kids at the academy could have gifts as well- we already know as of #18 that guillaume’s gift is what separated the kids at woodrun from the teachers.
jade’s ability appears to be some sort of unconscious precognition, manifested through dreams (basically all of #10) and the fact that she always seemed to know she had to die even before the trip to the nurses.
the most important thing she’s got from this precognition is that she has to die, even though she doesn’t want to. as ike also points out in #17, everyone has to die, so why should it be anything special to jade?
however, back when jade first attempts to kill herself in #2, we get a little exchange of dialogue between daramount and gribbs:
but afterward jade is obviously kept in the nurse’s office and given what triggers her dreams that take up most of #10, which should imply she does know something. and whatever that something is seems to be connected to her death. thus: something special will happen when jade dies. i gotta note note though that both of jade’s parents seem to be very simple people, even though with hodge her powers were passed down from her mother- which I CAN EXPLAIN I SWEAR
as for ike, we have to talk about his dad’s current circumstances. abraham is being kept in an underground prison. for all intents and purposes, they seem to want him dead- at the end of #17 they unleash david (aka the academy’s ghost killing machine) on him, and in #20 hodge tells daramount that when she’s fixed everything up, “Abraham will get what he deserves.” so they’re planning abe’s death.
now, remember how gribbs’ entire plan back in #11 was to get ike to kill abraham? ike actually specifically asks gribbs why he himself has to do it, and while gribbs’ excuse was that they were keeping their word to ike about letting him go if he did it, there’s evidently something more here.
ike’s done a lot of shitty things in his life, but the one thing he seems to have actually felt bad about was killing his dad- or some sort of double of his dad, considering abraham’s still alive. abraham tells ike that they have to “stick to the plan” afterward, meaning abraham was likely the one who had ike kill the double in the first place.
so why ike? why not abraham himself? it’s just like the current situation with the real(?) abraham- abraham’s own gift must be some sort of immunity to murder, but if he needs to be killed, ike’s the only one who can do it. so ike’s gift is basically an extreme kill- kill those who are unkillable, and maybe something else when killing any others.
alright, now for something else. issue 6, by the end, is the story of how one julie hayes was recruited by older jade For A Better Future. one thing that’s emphasized throughout the whole of the issue is that julie is a lot like our own casey blevins- they both have a strong bond with their fathers, talk about bell’s theorem, and the cylinder activates when they’re around.
(older jade’s response to that second cap: “What it means, Andrew, is we have some very important company waiting for us upstairs.” with a shot of julie)
another thing that seems odd about the future we see in #6 is that it’s jade who’s leading the group of people there- casey seems like she’d be leadership material. with her gone, julie seems a lot like casey reborn. so what if she actually is? (this is the most ridiculous part of the theory i apologize)
during jade’s extended dream sequence in #10 she runs into some older dude with absolutely ridiculous sideburns, who she claims to recognize, and who also recognizes her. he asks if she remembers a bunch of cheesy romantic dates as well as them promising to be together forever, which she says yes to, and then the scene ends on the ridiculous whopper of “And do you remember how I cut you open?”, which if you couldn’t tell isn’t nearly as romantic as the other things here.
so here’s my interpretation of both those things: the students at morning glory academy get their gifts via reincarnation, rather than genetics. jade claiming that she remembered the weird sideburns guy comes from the fact that she did know him, in a past life, and julie’s resemblance to casey means that casey will die young somehow and be reincarnated into our second bell’s theorem-spouting lady. that would explain why older jade told julie to “possess what you possess inside you”- jade knows her best pal’s in there somewhere, get ‘er out!!
so a past jade had a sideburned lover who cut her open. and the closest thing we’ve gotten to anything romantic involving current jade and a dude waaas….
…a guy who we already know cut someone open, which means jade and ike have to bond and get together. but jade seems like she’s very convinced her death will come soon- she keeps trying to kill herself in the present day. however, older jade is alive, well and seems pretty mentally stable- no sign of ike, however. but older jade did bring up ike, during one of her conversations with current jade- and when the current jade talked about how much she hates him, older jade seemed oddly sentimental for a second.
if casey’s dead, it’s not out of the question to think ike is in the future, too. in fact, the resident scientist in the future, andrew, refers to older jade having a “generous benefactor” who can give them “some additional funding from the great beyond after this thing kills all of us”. he probably meant that sarcastically, but hey, foreshadowing is a thing, and ike’s obviously the richest glory.
so remember how i was getting at something with ike and jade’s respective gifts earlier? ike can kill in some sort of special way, and something special happens when jade dies. jade’s past lover said that he “cut [her] open”. if ike and jade are reincarnated from a situation where the dude killed the girl for reasons unknown, and if ike’s supposed to kill and jade’s supposed to die, you can put two and two together- if older jade wasn’t still around, and older ike appeared to be dead rather than older. if jade is supposed to die for some big reason, the only thing i can think of that would let her live is for somebody else to die in her place. in other words, ike will have to kill jade for some reason, but for some other reason he’ll die instead.
(i need a better cap for this point but basically- ike did it right because that’s his gift. the one time he messes up, his life is over)
TL;DR: everyone is being reincarnated and that’s how most of them get powers (ex: julie is the next casey). ike and jade’s reincarnations are stuck in an endless cycle of getting together and then the dude killing the girl, because ike’s have killing powers and jade’s have something weird happen when they die. when this happens to our current ike and jade, something will happen and ike will be the one who dies instead of jade.
EVEN SHORTER TL;DR: ike and jade are gonna bond because ~*destiny*~. however ike will be forced to kill jade for reasons unknown, but something will happen and ike will die instead. and it’s all For A Better Future because it’s morning glories, what else could it be.
bam. that was what this entire post was about. if you got through that whole thing (1306 words GODDAMMIT SELF) i love you.
